The Next Big Thing

Just because Emm tagged me and it seemed like a good idea at the time ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, hereโ€™s the rules:

  • Give credit to the person / blog that tagged you
  • Post the rules for the blog hop
  • Answer these ten questions about your current WIP (Work In Progress) on your blog
  • Tag five other writers/bloggers and add their links so we can hop over and meet them

Ten Interview Questions for the Next Big Thing:

What is the working title of your book?

The White Heron

Where did the idea come from for the book?

It’s the sequel to my first novel,ย The Silver Hawk,ย so the beginning at least is fairly set – where to go from there has been the main struggle. After more than a year and a half, I’m excited to have a fairly solid plot skeleton and will be writing the first draft for Nano this year.

What genre does your book fall under?

Fantasy and Sci Fi (about half and half)

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Ahahahhaha… you should see my pin board – I’ve assigned actors to every character in my world (including great grandmothers!) I chose Ben Barnes as the look and personality of Kamron, and James McAvoy (from Children of Dune) as Tynan, but getting a good Juliana or Tasya has always been hard. I really love Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings) for Elaine and Andrea (just pic the cute versus serious expressions and voila, you have twins ๐Ÿ˜‰

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Becoming the Guild’s puppet Queen was not on Tasya’s to-do list, and stealing Juliana’s throne makes her feel guilty as hell, but she’ll have to use every scrap of her newfound power if she’s going to save the Empire.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Self-published. I enjoy having control over the whole process and it just seems way more efficient.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Still haven’t… but soon, very soon.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Game of Thrones without the extreme violence or sex… and with two immortal alien scientists who really aren’t supposed toย interfere.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

All the people prodding me about when book two will be out ๐Ÿ˜‰

What else about your book might pique the readerโ€™s interest?

Reading the Silver Hawk. Around ninety percent of people who tell me they’ve read it also say they want to read book two, which makes me really happy!

  1. Ooh, I just can’t WAIT to read it! Aaaah!!! I never thought of The Silver Hawk being made into a movie…but now that I read that I realise…it would be the Best Movie EVER!!!!

  2. What a Awesome title for the second book!!!!!!!!
I can’t WAIT to read it!!!! Tierney’s right, it would make a fantastic Movie!!!!
Please hurry up and finish writing the sequel!!!! I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hehe I would love to see my trilogy as a movie – it would be really exciting ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m making some great progress on the second book too – it’s nearly November, beginning of Nano. Can’t wait to see where the story goes when I’m able to devote so much extra time to it!!

  3. I’m sure you’ll do a brilliant job!!!
LOVE the title!! Do I see a bird theme here in the titles? Hmmm… ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Looking forward to Writing tomorrow!!

  4. P. S. Forgot to say, Who’s your favourite character in The Silver Hawk?
I dunno about mine…have to think about it!!!
    Hmmmm… ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Probably Chitsi – for the girls and it would be hard to pick between Kamron and Tynan for the boys. I love Tynan’s humor, despite everything he’s been through – and his compassion. Then again, I love how handsome and powerful Kamron is, in his own quiet way. I am really looking forward to him stepping up and taking control of his own destiny.

  5. I can’t decide who’s my favourite character!!! I have so many!!
For the girls, it would probably be a tie between: Taysa, Chitsi, and Juliana.
For the boys, it would be a tie between Kamron or Tynan.
    Who’s your least favourite character?
I’m not sure about mine, I love all your characters, good or bad. I love how in your book, I get to know all of your characters really well, but You don’t go overboard with explaining them like some Authors do, You get it just right!! I love re reading your book, I don’t just feel like I’m reading it, I feel like I’m IN the story, with them, not on the outside watching. That’s what makes a good writer, and you’re definitely one!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
Sorry, I’m rambling on a bit!!
See you at Writing Class!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • HI Ella!
I’m so glad you feel transported into the story – that’s exactly how I feel when I’m writing it. The characters feel very real to me, so there aren’t many I don’t like, or at least understand why they do what they do. Andrea, for example, can be horrible and kind, betray her own twin and then stand up for a blind queen. I like her because she’s complicated. If I had to pick, my least favourite character would definitely be Vivienne. She’s nasty beneath the surface and really self-serving. I don’t think she has a genuinely kind bone in her body.
Thank you so much for these questions – I love talking about the story and the characters ๐Ÿ™‚
      – Beaulah

  6. Hi Beaulah!
I’ve been thinking about it, and Vivienne is probably my least favourite character.
I thought it might be Leona or Mel, – or even Andrea, but they’re not shallow like Vivienne (if you don’t mind me saying!! :)). Vivienne only looks after herself.

    Ella ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Ahahaha snap – we totally picked the same character. I definitely agree that Vivienne is shallow. Leona and Andrea, while both have their nasty sides, are fighting for something they believe it which is bigger than themselves. Melanie is a little shallow (sometimes), but she wants her mother to be proud of her and she cares deeply about Juliana. She even had a grudging respect for Tasya… before everything went bad.

  7. Everything you say is completely true!!
    Hight five!! ๐Ÿ˜€
By the way I meant to ask you at writing, but I forgot. in the end of The Silver Hawk, Andrea turns into a white bird and takes Juliana to the Isle of White (uh oh!! I smell trouble brewing!!).
Did Andrea turn into a white heron?

      • I dunno if I can wait that long!!!!!!
You can betcha that I’ll be one of the first to read The White Heron !!!
Tierney might beat me to it, though!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Fantastic! I’m so looking forward to it. I’m hoping to have it out by August or Sept next year – got to write it… And then make sure it’s well edited!

      • Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will I be able to wait that long?? ๐Ÿ˜‰
What are your ideas for the cover? ๐Ÿ™‚
